You should never question the reasoning behind adding a CV letter to your resume – it will always help you instead of hurt you when it comes to your job hunt. In the tough economy today, landing your dream job means financial stability, security and food on the table for you and your family.
Starting off with ”My name is…” is pretty irrelevant when you think about it. Your name is already at the top of the page, or it’s listed as the return name in your email message; you don’t need to remind them a third time. Instead, you need to focus on why you are writing this letter, and stick to just that.
Hiring managers tend to skim through cover letters quickly, so it’s important to highlight the most important details: why you are contacting them and why you are qualified. They aren’t interested in much more, so make sure you keep it simple.
Your ability to sell yourself. Though a resume is where you sell your skills and experiences. Being able to do so shows you are assertive and confident about your abilities. Take the time to create a compelling opening paragraph and hook the hiring manager or recruiter right away!
